Shorten Steps – Get More Traffic

Filed under: Uncategorized — imarker @ 9:27 pm

The internet is all about shorter steps and getting what you want right away.  Rather than going to all the airlines to see their rates for a flight, Travelocity shows you a range.  Then there’s trends, news, and what’s new.  Recently the iPhone was announced by Apple. The first sites to have the news were blogs. Rather than wait to hear the news on TV we can search for it or be alerted to the news when we open up our Google personalized page or MyYahoo or RSS feeds, where we have articles set to post information about Apple.

But how else can this be done online even more, get the latest news or know what the most exciting thing going on in the world is right now, for our specific interest, sites like Digg post articles based on votes but how else? Recently I was watching sports on TV and wanted to just skip to the last 5 minutes of the NBA game or jump to that period. A friend then told me how the NFL has a package where it skips to any game where a team is in the red zone. How do we or you make the red zone for your site? The first site that posted or the site that was best optimized for the ‘iphone’ term at Google, received the most traffic when Apple announced their new phone. Or when Beckham was signed to the LA Galaxy, the site that had that information, optimized for, ‘Beckham signs with Galaxy‘, got a ton of traffic I’m sure.
